FOLLOWING THE HORSE
FARAS is an ongoing study of the people, landscapes and traditions shaped by the horse.
Beginning in Africa, the project follows horse cultures across borders and continents documenting communities, traditions and ways of life in which the horse remains part of everyday identity.
From working animals to ceremonial traditions, from remote landscapes to changing rural worlds, FARAS is interested in what horses reveal about the people who live alongside them.
At its heart, the project is a study of connection: between human and animal, movement and place, inheritance and change.
JESS HENRICH
Jess Henrich is a documentary photographer and artist whose work explores the relationship between people, horses and landscape. Working on long-term projects across Africa and beyond, she focuses on communities where equestrian traditions remain central to cultural identity.
Her work is driven by immersion rather than spectacle, creating images that reveal the quiet depth of the relationships between human and horse. Her ongoing project, FARAS, is an evolving visual archive of horse cultures around the world.
Originally from Kenya and now based in Cape Town, South Africa, Jess's work spans documentary photography and fine art, united by a fascination with memory, identity and the landscapes that shape both people and horses.
